Quote
from the Artist: I have taken responsibility to respond to the AIDS catastrophe in Africa because I would like to make a contribution which would help prevent the needless deaths of countless women and children. People living with AIDS in Africa have a right to the life-saving anti-retroviral medication that will prolong their lives. In our case, we can use the proceeds from our music to help build a multi-purpose center for teens orphaned by AIDS who live in Dennilton, South Africa. | Marques
Wyatt
Bio:
International DJ and producer Marques Wyatt
is an influential messenger of the deepest,
most soulful kind of house music. Beneath
his relaxed, spiritual and unknowingly suave
persona, therein lies a man partially responsible
for giving birth to the West Coast house scene
by bringing the fresh sounds of New York (a
la Frankie Knuckles, Tony Humphries and Larry
Levan) to Los Angeles beginning in the mid
‘80s. Carefully pointing out that he
has "always had a deep passion for music,"
you know that his adoration of house has been
a gateway into the lives of thousands and
thousands of people. Over the years promoting
and playing an enormous amount of parties
including BBC, Brass, MAC's Garage, Does Your
Mama Know? and currently LA’s biggest
house club DEEP, Marques has changed the face
of Southern California nightclubbing and the
presentation of its music, sound and scene.

MC Azeen
After reintroducing the hip-hop world to intricately-layered jazz chords with Colossus’ West Oaktown, ushering in a post-neo-soul era with Strange Fruit Project’s The Healing, and showcasing the non-hyphy side of Bay Area rap with Zion-I & the Grouch’s Heroes in the City of Dope, Om Hip Hop unleashes its most visionary, groundbreaking and (quite possibly) controversial release to date.
Rise Up, the long-awaited album from veteran underground emissaries Zeph and Azeem, offers thirteen tracks (and two interludes) worth of consciousness-lifting metaphors, party-rocking beats, and undiluted, 100% rebel music. In the tradition of classic pairings like Guru & Premier, the D.O.C. and Dr. Dre, Eric B. & Rakim (and, more recently, Aceyalone and RJD2), Rise Up matches one DJ/producer with one MC, with suitably stellar results. Migs
San
Francisco’s Miguel ‘Migs’
has become a top-tier DJ and remixer in the
house scene, largely due to his Petalpusher
releases on Naked. Thick, chunky drums, rich
basslines and a pronounced dub sensibility
are hallmarks of the Petalpusher sound, all
wrapped together and injected with a serious
dose of dancefloor fever. Miguels' debut album
for Naked is due in 2002 and features plenty
more of the infectious, unforgettable Petalpusher
tracks like "Breaking It Down" and
"Rely on Me". Always on the road,
keep an eye out for Miguel bringing the Naked
vibe to a club near you!
Quote from the
Artist: "We
can do something to help. Being in a position
like many artists no matter how big or small,
they have more power than they realize to
make a statement. Contributions to this situation
can come in many forms; participating in events
and other things that NextAid is doing are
essential for us to bring people together
for awareness and fundraising to actually
help the cause.... I support that completely
and hope others do as well because it's a
serious situation and needs attention..."
