SFbyDEF and NextAid Present
For the Kids
In Loving Memory of Wert Terry, at Café Cocomo
Sunday, October 16th, 2005

San Francisco, CA/Los Angeles, CA - In the long-heralded San Francisco tradition of supporting worthy causes, the house music community is responding once again to an urgent call for action. SFbyDEF and NextAid are joining forces to make a difference in African children's lives whose
parents have died from AIDS. Of the 15 million children orphaned by AIDS, 95% are living in Africa. On Sunday, October 16, 2005 from 12noon until 2:00am join over 30 DJs and numerous businesses and organizations for the third and final "For the Kids" benefit event. To date, For the Kids events have raised a total of $14,000 for NextAid. The party will take place at Café Cocomo, 650 Indiana St., San Francisco, CA 94107 (at Mariposa). Cover charges are $10 before 2:00pm, $15 before 10:00pm, and $10 after 10:00pm. For more information please call 415-824-6910 or visit www.NextAid.org or www.sfbydef.com

The best of San Francisco's house DJs are coming together, tag-teaming and sharing the decks in a true community effort. DJ's include Carlos, Jeno, Garth, MRK (aka DJ Markie Mark), Sen-Sei, Andy Caldwell, Ellen Ferrato, Mei-Lwun, Rick Preston, Harry Who?, DJ Adnan, Dano, Tracy, Tao, Little John, Adam, Mark Ameba, Late Night Sneaky (live), Monty Luke, Charlotte the Baroness, DJ Seven, Antonio, Paul Hemming, Samo, Paul Guido, Mozaic, Julie Joules, Fil Latorre, Eric Sharp, Jeff Brillhart, cdj Obadayo, and Zone AV VJ's. Sound provided by Xaeion.

This same community originally united last year in the first For the Kids event, which was spearheaded by SFbyDEF for the benefit of NextAid, inspired by an event called "For the Love" (2002). For the Love was an unprecedented community event that raised money to help Wert Terry, a beloved member of mthe community, in his fight against cancer. Although he tragically lost his fight, money raised went towards his daughter's education.

Proceeds from all the For the Kids events are going to NextAid to help with the construction of "The Wert Terry Music and Dance Center," one of several buildings included in a larger multi-purpose center in Dennilton, South Africa for a group of impoverished yet resilient teens that call themselves Youth for a Vision (YWAV). YWAV is a non-profit organization comprised of teens mostly orphaned by AIDS who use theater and music to teach AIDS awareness to their peers, literally saving lives. This is NextAid's pilot project and they broke ground just this summer with the first administrative building for the center. Architectural drawings and plans will be on display at the event. Photos and a short video can be seen on NextAid's website.

SFbyDEF.com is a non-profit artist referral and promotions service focusing on the San Francisco House Music community. Founder Scott Franklin Manning's (aka SFM, cdj Obadayo, TrainRecord) primary goal is bringing people together through SF House Music. SFbyDEF.com was established in 2000 and has been producing events and referring artists worldwide ever since. House Music is the San Francisco sound, and SFbyDEF's events and artists epitomize the definition of this infamous sound. Deep and Funky! SFM & SFbyDEF's biggest impact towards world peace through music was the "Together" event in 2003 bringing Arabs and Jews together for the first time in history for the dance community in Tel Aviv, Israel.

NextAid is a Los Angeles-based non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for African children orphaned as a result of AIDS. By partnering with other organizations in the production of music benefits and awareness-raising activities, NextAid channels
emergency and long-term aid to African children in need.

Another exciting NextAid project this year was the release of the CD compilation: reBOOT Notes for the Next Generation, on OM Records, the San Francisco-based label. This labor of love project includes original tracks by artists such as Thievery Corporation, Louie Vega, Ron Trent, DJ Garth & Markie Mark, Miguel Migs, Kaskade, Marques Wyatt & Gina Rene, Mark Farina, aFRO-mYSTIK, and more.

This For the Kids event is also being supported by Grayhound, OM Records, Nitevibe.com, SFSTATION.com, ESDJCO, KZSU, Kelly's Angels, YBR Promotions, Dax Presents, DJ Adnan, DJ Seven, Green Galactic, Anon Salon, Green Gorilla, Raindance, Red Melon, Moulton Street Studios, Tweakin', Cloud Factory, Opel Productions, Eventvibe.com, flavorpill, EmailLabs.com, WorldDJ.com, staplemusic, and UrbanGroove.
